Identifying Brown Marmorated Stink Bugs in Greenville, Michigan

Brown marmorated stink bugs are established nuisance pests in Michigan. In fall, they gather around houses, sheds, and barns while seeking protected shelter for the cold months. Once inside wall voids or other concealed spaces, they may reappear in occupied rooms as temperatures change.

Adults are approximately 5/8 inch long, mottled brown, and shaped like a shield. Light-colored bands on their antennae distinguish the species from native look-alikes. Brown marmorated stink bugs were first officially identified in Michigan in 2010 and have since spread across multiple counties in the Lower Peninsula.
